Call for Financial Support –
Establishing a Refugee Self-Organisation Office in Berlin
Dear members, supporters, and interested communities!
With this letter, we appeal to you on behalf of The VOICE Refugee Forum Germany and the Förderverein The VOICE e.V. Göttingen, as well as The VOICE Forum Berlin.
The VOICE Refugee Forum Germany and its support structure (Förderverein The VOICE e.V. Göttingen) are politically independent, autonomous, and non-affiliated with any political parties or State Institutions. Due to these principles, we reject money or any financial assistance from systems that oppress us. Since our conception (1994), we have been financially supported by people like you, people who believe in change from the grassroots.
The Förderverein The VOICE e.V. Göttingen is a direct support structure of The VOICE Refugee Forum Germany, and has, for decades, stood in solidarity with refugees and asylum seekers in Germany. Its mission is to support the defense of human rights, support self-organisation, and amplify the voices of those who face daily exclusion, isolation, and racism. We work to ensure that refugees not only survive in Germany but are empowered to claim their rights and fight for dignity and justice. We have always been and continue to fight for a permanent DEPORTATION STOP in Germany, Europe, and globally.
Since 2010, the VOICE Refugee Forum activists in Berlin have been organising without a fixed infrastructure (after being expelled from a “White SPACE”)—remaining mobile and relying on temporary spaces. This has limited our capacity to expand activities, coordinate actions, and provide continuous uplifting support. Now, we are taking an important step: We aim to establish a permanent office in Berlin as a hub for refugee self-organisation, political advocacy, legal support, and the documentation of human rights violations, as well as the documentation and archiving of our engagements and activities.
Our support structure, the Förderverein, would have to face the extra challenge of providing approximately 8.500 € yearly for variable and fixed costs. Nevertheless, due to the public interest that continues to demand a permanent office in Berlin, this would drastically increase the load for the Förderverein.
This office will be a vital meeting point and coordination Centre for Refugees and Migrants, including their allies across Germany. It will strengthen the collective struggle against deportations, isolations, and racism, and ensure that the voices of refugees remain visible and powerful in the political landscape.
To achieve this, we urgently need your continuous financial support. Our association does not receive public funding, and most of our members are refugees and asylum seekers with little to no means. We rely on the solidarity of individuals, friends, and supporters to make this vision possible.
Your contribution—whether a one-time donation or a monthly donation (Dauerauftrag), will help us cover essential costs:
- Rent and infrastructure for the new VOICE Berlin office
- Legal support and lawyers’ fees in asylum and deportation cases
- Travel expenses for refugee activists under “Residenzpflicht” restrictions
- Documentation, publications, and political campaigns
- Meetings, workshops, political and cultural events, strengthening refugee self-organisation
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to securing this crucial space for refugees’ political work and empowerment.
