Kurdish Iraqi refugee (25yrs) dies in railway accident near the lager of Gerstungen today - infront of Refugee Isolation Lager - Camp, Am Berg 1, 99834 Gerstungen
Midday today a fatal railway accident occurred on rails cutting off the Isolation Lager for refuges in Gerstungen from the rest of the township, where all facilities for shopping or transportation are situated. A train smashed a 25year old Kurdish refugee from Iraq into pieces around 1pm today, who supposedly somehow did not realize the approaching vehicle. As information from fellow refugees in the lager is concerned, he arrived in Gerstungen lager more than 2 months ago and was on top of the forced isolation in the lager itself a rather withdrawn personality.
Authorities will definitely not invest energy in investigation in how this tragic occurrence could happen. They will just call it an accident illegally crossing railways. Possible suicide due to unbearable living conditions and denying of perspectives shall be excluded in favor of an inevitable “accident”.
The general use of the short cut via the rails by the refugees from the very outskirts of Gerstungen can be easily understood by analyzing the following picture shot by satellite, which is provided by google maps request: in front of Refugee Isolation Lager - Camp, Am Berg 1, 99834 Gerstungen https://maps.google.de/maps?oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&q=Am+Berg+1,+9983…
(A = lager site Gerstungen – trail crossing the rails for access to facilities of the township)
Taking this picture into account, the habit rail crossing cannot be denied by the authorities. So again the praxis of isolating refugees in the outskirts of remote villages claims a new victim and the authorities refuse their responsibility for systematically violating basic human rights like e.g. the right to self-determination of the place of settlement or the right of freedom of movement.
Moreover these very authorities go as far as criminalizing refugee self-organizations by trying to tell them off lager grounds and provoke “legal” persecution, as happened lately during a solidary visit of the very place within the BREAK ISOLATION Solidarity Act on April 24th 2013
(The VOICE Jena: Police Repressive criminalization of BREAK ISOLATION Solidarity Act meetings in Thurigian Refugee Lagers; https://thevoiceforum.org/node/3171).
We cry out in mourning over this new senseless death of a fellow-refugee in an innumerous row of an irresponsible body count of late refugees that were taken out of their lives due to isolation, repression, persecution and lack of perspectives other than deportation provided by the racist German system by denial of asylum, “exceptional leave to remain” (Duldung), housing in remote lagers, restriction of freedom of movement (Residenzpflicht), police brutality from “racial profiling as far as murder and final brutalization by deportation.
We again use this sad opportunity as to demand full stop of abuses of refugee’s dignity and at last unrestricted implementation of the UN Human Rights Charta as ratified by the German state.
