Activists protest against Germany’s plan to deport Nigerians
August 12, 2019

About 100 protesters gathered in Gotha, state of Thuringia, on Saturday to protest against deportations to Nigeria and what they described as “the intimidation of the authorities and police”. Participants from Berlin, Erfurt, Frankfurt am Main, Göttingen, Jena and Wuppertal converged on the eastern German town in response to the call of refugees stationed in Gotha

Refugee protest and solidarity demonstration in Gotha together with The VOICE Refugee Forum

A report of the Wuppertal Delegation of the CARAVAN for the Rights of Refugees and Migrants

Last Saturday about 100 people followed the call of the refugees from Gotha to protest against the deportations to Nigeria, against the conditions in the isolation camps in and around Gotha, against the intimidation of the authorities and police. Groups and delegations from Berlin, Erfurt, Frankfurt am Main, Göttingen, Jena and Wuppertal showed their presence to express their solidarity with the refugees from Gotha. The actions were part of the RefugeeBlackBox activities and the start of a campaign against the planned 30,000 deportations to Nigeria.

Tagtäglich sehen wir die Nachrichten über das Sterben im Mittelmeer. Keiner fragt, welchen Weg die Menschen auf sich genommen haben und warum. Keiner fragt, was mit den in Europa gestrandeten passiert. Über die meist nachts durchgeführten Abschiebungen berichtet kaum jemand. Über die Zustände in den Isolationslagern auch nicht. Ein Gesetz nach dem anderen wurde nach 2015 verabschiedet und die wenigen Rechte, die Flüchtlinge in Deutschland erkämpft hatten, Stück für Stück abgebaut. Familien werden in diesem Jahr brutal getrennt und abgeschoben. Junge Männer werden in regelmäßigen Abständen nach Kabul deportiert. Einige sind schon mittlerweile tot. Nun sollen auch noch 30.000 Flüchtlinge aus Nigeria abgeschoben werden.
