Remscheid - Police raids refugee camp
Submitted by kandolo on Thu, 10/25/2007 - 22:34. English | NRW | Police brutality
On October 24, early in the morning at 6:20 am 250 policemen raided the refugee camp in Remscheid. They broke into the rooms of the refugees, forced them to the ground and hancuffed them. Thereafter they searched in the rooms for "drugs". The refugees had to wait at least two hours until they were released. The police raid was accompanied by the press, that reported in detail ((rp-online, Remscheider General Anzeiger) to spread the criminilization into the brains of the people.
For the refugees of the camp this raid in the dark morning was not the first time. Most of them have already experienced such raids and each time the society and the media shouts, "See the criminals in our neighbourhood!"
We will defend ourselves against the state terror imposed on us and we request the state persecuter to doo his job correctly and not forget the crimes committed by the state. Mohammad Selah one young refugee from the same camp had to die last January, because the city administration of Remscheid refused to give him the health card to go to the doctor. The rejection of the health insurance is the normal status in Remscheid and elsewhere. But the state persecutor in Wuppertal who should investigate remains silence and instead sends the police to the camp. He send the same police to the refugees which is known in Wuppertal and Remscheid because of their racist insults and brutalities against migrants and young Punks, and which increases the rage of the people not only in Wuppertal and Remscheid.
Next week we will go to the streets to name the crimes of the German police and government and inform the poeple about the situation of the refugees. Be aware of calls spreaded by email or throughthe caravan homepage. We will name the crimes of the German police that burns refugees like Oury Jalloh in police cells, that shoots young men like Dominique Koumadio on the streets of Dortmund and rapes refugees in deportation prisons like they did in Bremen. When they attack one of us, they aim at all of us, and they should know we will not stop us from naminig the criminals and their bosses, who bring racism and hatred into the society and prepare the ground for all the racist attacks and the poeple for the wars in other countries.
Solidarity against the state terror, deportation, racism and war.
Down with racism.

Mike Osei Tragedy in Amsterdam
Video Reports - Fri, 12 Oct 2007
Mike Osei, a Ghanaian living in Amsterdam Bijlmer, in the Southeast district met his untimely death on Thursday, 4 October 2007 around 7 pm in front of the Gravestein building. The Police busted into the 10-storey flat, arrested one man and in his bid to run away, Osei fell from the 7th floor and died as a result of the Police action.
Incidentally this sad event coincided with the 15th Anniversary of the Bijlmer Disaster in which Israeli EL AL Cargo plane crashed into a block of flats, about half a kilometer away from the spot where Mike fell, on October 4 1992. Fourteen Ghanaians, including women and children, lost their lives in this accident.
Memorial ceremony in wreath-laying was already taking place in a calamity already fading into oblivion when Mike Osei fell.
Circumstances surrrounding his death is still sketchy and cloudy that Ghanaians mounted a huge demonstration yesterday never before in the history of them in the Netherlands.
The news is still brewing hot in both the local and the international media, thus bringing into sharp focus under the microscope, the excesses of the Dutch immigration policy fashioned out in her pandemic racial animosity towards migrants.
Twenty four hours from now, a delegation made up of representatives from the Ghana Embassy in The Hague and the Interim Advisory Council for Ghanaian residents in The Netherlands, will meet the Mayor of Amsterdam, Job Cohen to ascertain the facts of the case that led to this tragic accident.
There are versions of conspiracy theories including a possible Dutch Police complicity. Another theory has it that the man had just been released from jail some 10 days ago and was already suffering from trauma, intimidation and fear and, the Police harassment might have created the panic that resulted in him trying to escape another arrest.
This FEAR in the African community in particular has resulted in many incidents in the past where people jumped to death or became maimed as they tried to escape Police arrest.
Meanwhile arrangements and feverish preparations are underway for the burial of Mike Osei, as the entire Ghanaian Community hangs in grief and is awashed in the traditional brick red coloured 'Kobin' cloth, symbolising state of mourning.

Nigerian migrant Festus Okey was killed under arrest in Istanbul
Submitted by azadi on Mon, 09/17/2007 - 20:27. English | Police brutality
The Turkish police that was awarded unlimited rights with the new anti-terror law has increased torture and massacres. Nigerian Festus Okey who had come to Turkey with the hope to become a football player and played in different amateur football clubs was killed at the police station Beyoglu, Istanbul, which is always on the agenda for applying torture.
Nigerian Festus Okey was arrested together with his friend Mamaria Oga on August 20 and taken to the police station. According to Mamaria Oga, his friend Festus Okey was taken to the fifth floor and he stayed in the first floor.
After he was separated from his friend, Oga heard someone screaming and a shot. Immediately after that, a police officer came to Oga and told him that his friend had died. According to the autopsy report of the forensic medicine, Festus Okey had been shot.
ESP: Festus Okey’s murderers must be sentenced
The murder of Festus Okey by the police wanted to be hidden as it has happened so far in cases of other massacres of migrants. However, on August 31 when the ESP organised an action together with the Nigerian friends in front of Galatasaray High School to protest against the killing and when they demanded the punishment of the responsible forces, the case became public and discussed.
At the action of the Nigerian migrants and the ESP, ESP spokesman Ersin Sedefoglu hold a speech and the banner saying “Festus Okey was killed at the police station Beyoglu. His murderers must be punished” was opened.
Sedefoglu also reminded that news mistreating, torture and arbitrary arrest at the police station Beyoglu have increased and that the news on the murder of Festus Okey became public on August 20. Furthermore, Sedefoglu said that the murderers of Festus are the police officers that were on shift and the AKP government that gives them these rights: “We demand the punishment of those police officers that shot Festus and killed him under arrest, the closure of the police station Beyoglu that has turned into a torture centre and the abolishment of those laws giving the police more rights.”
Tekstil-Sen general president Ayse Yumli Yeter whose husband DISK/Limter-Is education specialist Suleyman Yeter was killed in 1999 under arrest at the anti-terror unit in Istanbul also hold a short speech in which she said that: “The migrant Festus Okey has shown us once again that the state continues with torture. In this countr, torture is realised systematically and it is a state policy”.
Iswe Iswe talked in the name of the Nigerian migrants and said that they live under very difficult conditions. He told that especially black people are treated badly and are discriminated. Iswe explained that he and his friends feel very sad for t
After the speeches the mass shouted the slogans ”Human dignity will win over toture”, ”No to racism, long live the fraternity of the people” and ”Festus Okey`s murderers must be punished”.
A report published by the IHD and Mazlum-Der on September 6 shows that torture in Turkey is continued to be realised systematically. According to this report, 376 people have reported to be tortured in the first six months of 2007 and 3 people have died under arrest in June. By that, human right defenders showed that the statement of president Erdogan ”There is nothing like torture in my country” is a big lie.
Members of the Human Rights Association IHD organised an action in front of the police station Beyoglu and protested against the murder.
