Call for solidarity with refugees in Israel- International day of Action 2.2.18
After years of ignoring the plight of refugees within its borders, the Israeli government announced a new forced deportation policy, which states that African refugees are to be deported to Rwanda against their will or imprisoned indefinitely. Previous deportations from Israel to Rwanda have proven that those arriving there have no rights or legal status and face immediate deportation. They are forced to seek asylum yet again, and embark on a dangerous journey that often involves enslavement, torture, and death. The deportation policy is based on a confidential agreement between the two governments, which violates international law and Israel's obligation under the 1951 Refugees Convention.
In response to this inhumane measure, the African community and many members of the Israeli public have joined forces to stand up against the deportation. We are calling for your solidarity and action!
On February 2nd, 2018, an international day of protest will be held in front Rwandan embassies and consulates worldwide, as a part of series of actions aimed to expose the shameful deal between Israel and Rwanda to the international community. This pressure has already proven successful! In the past few days, Rwanda had officially denied having an agreement with Israel, and announced it will not accept any African migrant deported against his/her will. The Israeli government, however, insists such an agreement exists. Help us increase the pressure and make sure those accountable for the lives of refugees stand by their word: call on Rwanda not to accept forcefully deported refugees for cash!
