stop the criminalization: a partial list of the criminalization of refugee activists:
Akubuo Chukwudi: Akubuo began his political engagement as an individual since his arrival in Germany 11 years ago.
In 1997 he joined The VOICE Refugee Forum in 1997 and continued in the Caravan for the Rights of Refugees and Migrants in 1998.
More recently, he has been an organizer for the Anti-Lager Tour. Mr. Chukwudi has survived four deportation attempts and has been in deportation prisons three times, one time carrying out a twenty-six day hunger strike.
Although he is now married and no longer lives in his designated district, Mr. Chukwudi is now facing a court trial on the 15th of November on five completely different charges most of which was formally dropped in the past.

Cornelius Yufanyi: Cornelius Yufanyi, activist of the refugee organization “The VOICE Refugee Forum Germany", had been sentenced in September 2003 to pay a fine of 323,20 Euro for violating the Obligatory Residency Law, also known as “Residenzpflicht”. Cornelius Yufanyi then had announced that he would not accept the judgment and that he would not pay any amount of money for violating the discriminating law that contradicts international law. Now he is threatened by being imprisoned. Although his case is already before the European Court of Human Rights pending a decision, on Thursday, 27th October 2005 he was ordered to present himself to the authorities for imprisonment. Cornelius Yufanyi will not follow this request to extradite himself to the authorities voluntarily, expressing thereby his fight against the racist law. On his way to a consultation meeting in Berlin regarding his situation he was accompanied and questioned by a man which we assume to have been an undercover police.

Mouctar Bah: On the 7th of January the 21 year-old refugee Oury Jallow was burned alive in a police jail cell in the city of Dessau while tied at his hands and feet. His close friend, Mouctar Bah, took up the representation of the family and began to demand that the truth come out and justice be done.
He has faced several reprisals for his engagements and the authorities have taken the decision that his Telecafé, which is located in Dessau, should be closed down. Additionally, it is to be expected that the police responsible for the death of Oury Jallow will go unpunished.

Gaston Ebua: Since 2002 Gaston Ebua, activist of the refugee organization “VOICE Refugee Forum Germany", is engaged in a legal battle regarding which Foreigners’ Office is legal responsible for his case, which involves the Matter of residency restriction being placed on him in spite of the fact that his asylum has been recognized under the Geneva Convention. Because of the difficulties he has faced here and the possibilities opened up to him by the opportunity to study Human Rights at Roehampton University in London, Mr. Ebua has been frequently traveling between London and Berlin. This situation has meant that he has had to face the arbitrary actions of the border police on several occasions. Most recently, upon returning back to Berlin on the 26th of October, the border police informed him that his residency status has been deleted from the Central Register of Foreigners, meaning there is no longer any legal evidence of his residency in this country.

Anti-Deportation Alliance – Berlin:
At the beginning of the year the Berlin Senate announced its plans to deport 21,000 human beings from the country. On the 1st of September, almost 19,000 letters were sent out by the responsible authorities demanding that those implicated in the letters abandon Germany. One week after these letters were sent out, a fax threatening criminal charges went out to one of the convening organizations of a protest against deportations for their use of words. On
the 5th of October, at an internal meeting of the Alliance, about ten to twelve police with bullet proof vests tried to aggressively access the meeting place.
No reason was given as to why they were there other that they hear an “event” was taking place and they wanted to make sure everything was under control.
Other incidents include a computer being stolen from one of the organizers By two unknown individuals. …..
