Lampedusa in Hamburg

District Office Hamburg-Mitte prevents the construction of tents with the help of police force

Mayor and Senate continue to turn blind and deaf

Heavy rain floods sleeping place

While city officials are ducking for weeks and the group of 300 war refugees from Libya are living on the street a permanent picket with tents on an unused, grassy open space between Adenauerallee and Kurt-SchumacherAllee was applied for on weekends. The district office Hamburg-Mitte rejected the application. It was their duty to protect the grass lawns, so no permission would be granted. After spokesman for the group of refugees had already said at its press conference last week that even dogs are better protected and get shelter, the administration of the city of Hamburg is now bringing on even grass.

Yesterday at 4 pm people showing solidarity started setting up two tents on the space regardless of the authorities’ decision. This was stopped by a great police presence under threat to use force. With a spontaneous demonstration from St. Georg to the central station a protest was held against the inhumane attitude of the leaders of the city and their subordinates. The demonstration was led by a part of the group "Lampedusa in Hamburg". They carried a banner on was to read in three languages: "We did not survive the NATO war in Libya, to die on the streets of Hamburg". Many residents in St. George showed solidarity with the protesters and anger at the government.

For 5 weeks the people are living on the street, since 1st of May they are raising their voice declaring their demands with a roof over their heads being their priority number one for now. The Nordkirche promised help but couldn’t find space or accommodation. Their talks with the city leaders led to nothing.

The group of refugees’ letter to the local parliament and the mayor went unanswered, and no concrete results. For days it rains in the city and many are already sick, but a space is not available even if there are a hundred thousand square meters of office vacancy. And not even a particularly good and never used square of the city - a slightly larger traffic island, so to speak - is still denied to those in need.

While the rich of the city are celebrating "business as usual", the Senate squandered taxpayers' money on foolish projects and the police defends the protection of these wrong and unjust conditions, the disenfranchised have no choice but to fight.

It seems that first people have to die on the road, so that concern and crocodile tears can be wept.

During the press conference last week, the spokesmen for the refugees have said Libya was our home, where we could build our life, work and serve our families and our communities. When NATO came and bombs fell, it was all over. We have come to Europe against our will. Our livelihood, everything we had built, was destroyed. We have lost many people through the bombs and on the way across the sea. We are here and we will not go back.

The campaign today could create publicity, but the first goal is to have a safe place and a roof this was not achieved. But the law must be enforced - the right of the people.

We call for resolute and persistent solidarity with the struggle of the "Lampedusa in Hamburg" group as well as with the entire movement of refugees.

call "lampedusa in hamburg" for rally on 8th of june

An African proverb says:
"A goat that is already dead, no more afraid of knives."

To all migrant communities in Hamburg
To all those, who have not betrayed their own hearts and souls

Saturday, june 8th 2013, 12 o’clock
Hamburg Centralstation Hachmannplatz

We call you all to the streets to give a sign of solidarity and common struggle for our rights as human beings.

We are survivors of the NATO war in Libya. Everything we could build for us in Libya, we have lost. In the name of democracy and human rights, Libya, NATO countries have set on fire. The consequences of the war impact far beyond the borders of Libya. We, refugees from Libya in Europe, are the witnesses of the crime. We have come against our will and because of the intervention of the West of Europe. There is no going back for us.
We have seen many terrible things and overcome many obstacles. Now we live as unwanted immigrants on the streets of countries that speak of humanitarian protection but do not want to implement it. Again, we must fight for survival, while new wars in the name of democracy and human rights are already started.
The victims are the people who are supposed to be protected. To be a refugee is not criminal. Criminal is the one that generates refugees.

>To all our brothers and sisters who are due to the interests of powerful states also become refugees, to all our brothers and sisters who are because of the color of their skin, discriminated against and humiliated, to all our brothers and sisters who have come before us for a long time in this country and on this continent and learned to know the pain of rejection, to our young brothers and sisters who are born here in this country, and yet as "foreigners", to all the people who see peace and justice as a unit and stand up for

come with us, the refugees of the NATO war in Libya, "Lampedusa in Hamburg" on the road.
It is the fault of NATO and the European Union that we are here.
We are human beings and have rights. If the laws are against us, they must be abolished or changed. The man makes the law, not the law of the man.
