Some results from the meeting in Wuppertal jan. 15th 2011 after the demonstration in 14.01.2004 on the 4th memory events for Mohammed Sallah in Remscheid
http://thecaravan.org/node/2720 Remscheid: Demo in Gedenken an Mohammad Sillah
Participants were the THE VOICE and CARAVAN activists who where present in the memorial and the protest march remembering Mohamad Sillah in Remscheid the day before
After the meeting we made a short visit to one of the Lager in Remscheid where we met some of the activists.
First to say: The character of the meeting was different from planned because of less presence of the nationwide network.
Agreed proposal for restructuring the nationwide meetings which are taking place every three month – 4 times a year: to invite and motivate more people especially refugees we will organize two of the yearly meetings as open meetings. In these meetings we will focus on the topics of the refugees in the Lagers to achieve a strong exchange and flow of information about problems and struggles. These meetings need proper preparation. Prepared with information about our situation, the government policy, the actual topics etc. We will make documentation from the inputs and the exchanges of experiences. We also agreed to put after each open meeting the most important information together, make translation in the main languages (english, turkish, french, arbaic, farsi, russian, german …) and print it before the next open meeting so that the audience of the meeting can take the infomagazin/newspaper back to their areas for distribution and further discussions and planning.
It would be also nice if we organize for the evening of the first meeting day a light cultural program like music or short film presentations etc.
The other two meetings will become more the character of caravan-coordination meetings where we can concentrate on the nationwide network and on the ongoing campaigns, our publications and actions. Focused discussions on political topics we are connected with and planning and developing of the campaigns, documentation work and financial issues.
Each open meeting follows a caravan-coordination meeting after three month. The next caravan meeting on the 5th and 6th of february 2011 in Biberach/ Baden Württemberg hosted by the Refugee Initiative Biberach/ The Voice Baden Württemberg is the first open meeting under the new structure. We hold one bigger meeting in Hamburg (14/15 August 2010) which was on initiative of The VOICE Forum the first step for the structure of open meetings. The concrete agenda for Biberach is attached.
It was agreed to produce a brochure about the KARAWANE Festival 2010 and its contents.
This was already decided and the responsible groups/persons were listed in the non-public part of the protocol from the meeting in Hamburg. But nobody has done the work or had not even started. This is a point in our network structure which has become too accepted. Because of the importance of the festival and it outcomes we decided to go back to that work. The Voice will soon prepare the format for the brochure. Along this format the responsible and involved groups in the preparation of the festival topics (memorial, african masquerade, we are here because you destroy our countries, frontex, policebrutality, deportation, Lager) will write the Reports/statements on the very topic.
The festival statement on colonial injustice will be documented in the brochure.
It is also possible to document the Lager Exchange form 2009 and 2010 (after festival).
Further proposals for the format can be send to the VOICE Forum Jena.
Translations of the texts are needed.
Continuation in Lager struggle and documentation
The Voice Thüringen calls for some pressure on the local authorities. The contracts for four protest Lager are running out this year. Zella-Mehlis 01.04.2011, Breitenworbis: 30.6.2011, Gangloffsömmern: 31.8.2011, Gerstungen: 31.8.2011 http://www.thevoiceforum.org/node/1953
The Voice Baden Württemberg invites again delegations from the caravan network to Baden Württemberg. Hamburg and Wuppertal are asked to plan a short visit each to one Lager in Witthoh and Hardheim on the way to the meeting in Biberach. http://fluechtlingsbc.wordpress.com/category/support-refugee-self-derte…
We need efficient balance between meeting and action. We should aim on to go to every Lager in Germany. Lager visit should be normal and quantity is one but the quality we have to define.
We have to spend more thoughts about documentation.
How to bring it together under which topics? How to develop a format for the various topics so that others can easily got to it and contribute to the format or develop for another topic. It is important to show the connections between the different aspects of the imposed isolation and the core that holds everything together: deportation, capitalist system of exploitation, german state policy and war against refugees.
The two documents as a result of the Lager and Refugee conferences in Jena giving example how this can be adopted for deportation – how to organize against deportation or Residenzpflicht or other abuses.
Local groups can organize such conferences on other topics.
For the meeting in Biberach a proposed format on deportation will be presented.
Tribunal – time was too short to go deeper in
A proposal from Hamburg was made to invite doctors and medical workers from Cuba for a medical health visit in some Lagers for investigating and taking note of the complaints of the refugees. Always when we visit Lager we are confronted with many forms of illness and many more complaints about denials to give the effective medical treatment. Remember Mohamad Sillah
The health system and the highly developed medical standards in Cuba are worldwide well known. Everywhere medical support is needed. Cuba is at stage in Haiti with highest engagement like they were in Pakistan during the big flood. Since long Cubans trains medical staff at its universities and health center. From that background they would be the best observers and investigators form the health situation and the medical treatment in the Lager. We could form an international health commission to investigate some concrete cases like from Banga in Lager Gerstungen and others.
The outcomes of the delegations visits will also be part of the Tribunal later on but many „Minitribunals“ are organized in advance. More delegations focusing on other problem of the Lager system would be helpful. By focusing on one problem all the other problems will also come in.
