Am 8. April wird weltweit der Internationale Tag der Roma gefeiert. 1971, vor 42 Jahren, fand an diesem Tag der erste Welt-Roma-Kongress in London statt, bei dem sich Roma-Vertreter_innen aus 25 Ländern trafen.

Forty-one sub-Saharan refugees from the Shousha camp knocked on the doors of the influential World Social Forum demanding human dignity. The lack of recognition and concrete solutions encouraged them to collectively start a hunger strike in front of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) offices in Tunis on March 29th 2013, putting their health – already very fragile – in grave danger.
Im Folgenden dokumentieren wir den offenen Brief der Flüchtlingsfrauen aus dem Isolationslager Breitenworbis. Wir bitten Sie die heute, am 1. April 2013, gestartete Faxkampagne zu unterstützen und diese zu verbreiten. Sie können auch Ihre / Eure Solidarität öffentlich zu bekennen.

An das Landratsamt Eichsfeld , die Eichsfelder Ausländerbehörde und das Eichsfelder Sozialamt
Wir leben in einem alleinstehenden Wohnhaus, 2 km von dem Ort Breitenworbis entfernt. Nebenan befindet sich eine stinkende Kläranlage sowie eine Mastanlage, was das Wohnen besonders im Sommer unerträglich macht. 120 Menschen – Familien und Alleinstehende - müssen sich wenige Toiletten, Duschen und Küchen teilen. Um einzukaufen, zum Arzt, zur Schule oder zum Kindergarten zu gelangen, müssen wir mehrere Kilometer zu Fuß auf einer unbeleuchteten Straße laufen. Eine Bushaltestelle gibt es nur im Ort.
Wir fühlen uns von der Gesellschaft isoliert und ausgegrenzt. Besonders für Frauen, die krank sind und schlecht laufen können sowie Mütter mit kleinen Kindern ist dieses Leben unerträglich. Hinzu kommt, dass wir mit unseren Problemen nicht ernst genommen werden.

We are a group of asylum seekers, whose claims were not accorded the proper considerations by the UNHCR emergency protection Team in Tunisia. We are writing regarding an official plan to close the Choucha refugee camp in June 2013, leaving us without any suitable or durable solutions. (Disenfranchised).
For more than two years, we have been languishing in the desert Makeshift remote region.
